Recycling old Neckties – Eco-fashion Tips

There’s a running joke about neckties and Fathers Day, with different jokes having the same punchline – “another lousy tie”.

If you happen to be experiencing a surplus of necktie options, here are some eco-friendly tips which you could take heed from in maximizing the potential use and utility of old neckties.

In fact, you could even go as far as utilizing old neckties as new gift items for friends and family members.

Here are some ways in which ties can be reused and not thrown.

As a Guitar Strap – given the necktie’s general shape and form, they are ideal in the making of guitar straps, requiring only a wide-slide and tri guide, scissors, a sewing kit or a sewing machine.

It has to be said though, that you should opt to use a necktie which is made with materials strong enough to hold the weight of a guitar. I’d be quite pointless to use a soft-fabric necktie for this purpose.

As a Camera Strap – similar to the necktie used as a guitar strap, a necktie made of strong fabrics can be remodeled to work as a camera strap. Given that a camera is generally lighter compared to a guitar, a necktie camera strap is an ideal option for “thin” ties, requiring a well sized wide-slid and tri guide, scissors and the use of a sewing kit.

As an Eyeglasses Case – you can recycle neckties into eyeglass cases, and utilizing ties made of medium thickness fabrics would be best for this creation. You’ll need to have a sewing kit handy, some measuring materials and buttons/Velcro strips in completing this project.

As a Mobile Phone Case – similar to the use of neckties as eyeglasses cases, this reutilization of a tie requires the wide end of a tie to be intact, ideally fitting the size and dimensions of a mobile phone.

You’ll need a sewing kit, scissors and Velcro/buttons to pull this off, along with the use of a tie that is wide enough to fit a mobile.

So if you’re lost at what to do with all your ties, fret not. You can easily make other items with them, making the most of their being and not contributing to the build up of clothing item refuse figures.

Here’s hoping you’ve found this entry informative, and that you’ll get to it in recycling your ties.
